McIntosh Music Studio is run by violinist Shannon McIntosh (B.Mus Hons., M.Mus (Performance Teaching), Suzuki Violin Primary Accreditation). Her teaching style is influenced by contemporary music educators including Dalcroze and Kodaly and her experiences as a chamber musician.
Growing up in Townsville, Shannon began learning the violin at age seven and was largely involved in community music including the Barrier Reef Orchestra and local musical theatre. At the age of 17 she was accepted into the Queensland Conservatorium where she studied her Bachelor of Music (Performance) with violinist Alan Smith. In her final year, Shannon researched the application of the Dalcroze approach to teaching chamber music for her honours thesis. During this time in Brisbane she also participated in many youth ensembles and has had the opportunity to perform overseas in Singapore, Malaysia, France, Austria, Germany and Azerbaijan as well as performing with Opera Australia.
